Health Focus: Get Rid of Your Belly Fat

This type of fat, referred to as visceral fat, is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and other conditions. Waist measurements over 35 inches in women and 40 inches in men are a red flag. To reduce belly fat:

  • Walk briskly for an hour every day
  • Avoid fructose-sweetened foods and beverages
  • Drink green tea that is rich in antioxidants
  • Avoid trans fats or partially hydrogenated fats
  • Reduce your stress and get a restful sleep
  • Eat soluble fiber-rich foods such as avocados, brussels sprouts, black-eyed beans, and flaxseeds
